Honourable Dr. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations received his counterpart from Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (Western Sahara), His Excellency Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, Minister of Foreign Affairs and a Special Envoy of His Excellency Mr. Brahim Ghali, President of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic.
The meeting provided the Ministers with the opportunity to explore ways in which their countries can further enhance bilateral cooperation. On his part, Honourable Butale reiterated that Botswana stands in solidarity with other like-minded countries at the African Union and SADC, in recognising Western Sahara as a sovereign nation. Minister Butale further underscored that Botswana firmly believes that the self-determination of the Saharawi people should be honoured and protected.
In his response, His Excellency Beisat extended gratitude and warm hospitality he has received since arrival in Botswana and strong support to the self determination of Saharawi Republic. The two Ministers reassured their commitment to continue to work together on issues of mutual interest.His Excellency Beisat is in Botswana on a two day visit from 2nd to 3rd July 2026.
